Heilongjiang River is the longest international boundary river in the Northeast Asia, flowing through China, Mongolia and Russia, with a total drainage area of 2.461 million km2.The drainage area in China is about 967 thousand km2, accounting for 39%. Heilongjiang River Basin is the basis of maintaining the ecological balance in the Northeast Asia.

Heilongjiang River Basin Wetland Conservation Network has filled the gap of wetland conservation network in northeast China. It is the only wetland conservation network with the feature of international cooperation in China.
