Earth hour

Earth Hour is the international symbolic event when WWF encourages us to turn off lights and domestic electric appliances for one hour as a symbol of commitment to the future of our planet.

Earth Hour 2021 was held under the slogan #openup and was dedicated to the topic of access to environmental information. As part of the campaign, WWF Russia invited Russians to support appeals to the Government of the Russian Federation and Russian business associations to provide access to information about the state of the environment: to create Internet resources where information will be published and promptly updated, as well as to publish data on the impact of enterprises on the environment. If these proposals are implemented, we will know about the real state of water, air, forests and wildlife, as well as the measures taken to reduce the negative impact on them. This will also make it possible to avoid environmental disasters such as those that happened in 2020. Also, as part of the campaign, Russians learned how and where to get environmental information, what they have the right to expect from the state and business, and how they — as caring citizens — can contribute to environmental openness.
