Compensation Mechanism Seminar Held in Harbin

17 december 2019 On December 17th, the seminar on compensation mechanism of wildlife-caused damage was held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. The seminar was co-hosted by WWF, China Wildlife Conservation Association and Heilongjiang Forestry and Grassland Administration. The senior officials of Forestry and Grassland Administration of Jilin, Shaanxi, Yunnan and Heilongjiang provinces and experts from Northeast Forestry University exchanged and discussed the current situation and problems of compensation mechanism and public liability insurance.

Heilongjiang Province is an important habitat of Amur tigers, leopards, deer, and wild boars, etc. Nevertheless, there is no compensation method for damages in human and wildlife conflicts (HWC). This seminar offered suggestions and guidance for the future establishment and implementation of compensation methods for wildlife-caused damage in Heilongjiang Province.
